Speed Up Firefox Blog Post Image

Firefox is an internet browser that is preferred by many web designers and internet savvy people because they know that it is more secure, more standard compliant, and allows better customizations. Although Firefox is a very fast browser it can be better. In this article we will give you some good tips to make your Firefox preform better and faster.

You can tweak Firefox's cache handling, page load, and stop it from taking all of your resources, but don't worry, even if you are not familiar with the Firefox configuration you can make these changes. If you want to you can write down the changes you made to make sure that you can revert back to what you had. Good luck.

Access The Firefox Configuration

Open your browser and type "about:config" in the top address bar, not the search, but the actual address bar. You will be prompted the be careful, this is just Firefox's warning that you can do something bad to your browser....if you follow the instructions you should not have to worry about this.

network.dns.disableIPv6

In the filter address bar type the following: "network.dns.disableIPv6". If you have not made any modifications to your browser yet this setting should read "false" in the value column. Double click it to change it to "true".

network.http.pipelining

In the filter address bar type the following: "network.http.pipelining". If you have not made any modifications to your browser yet this setting should read "false" in the value column. Double click it to change it to "true".

network.http.proxy.pipelining

In the filter address bar type the following: "network.http.proxy.pipelining". If you have not made any modifications to your browser yet this setting should read "false" in the value column. Double click it to change it to "true".

network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

In the filter address bar type the following: "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests". If you have not made any modifications to your browser yet this setting should read "4" in the value column. Change that value to "8".

nglayout.initialpaint.delay

You need to create a new integer now. To do this you need to right click > New > Integer. In the text box that comes up you need to type "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and hit the ok button. Next, enter a value of "0" and click the OK button.

config.trim_on_minimize

You need to create a new Boolean now. To do this you need to right click > New > Boolean. In the text box that comes up you need to type "config.trim_on_minimize" and hit the OK button. Next, select "true" and click the OK button.

browser.sessionhistory.max_total_viewer

In the filter address bar type the following: "browser.sessionhistory.max_total_viewer". Change that value to "0".

Conclusion

This is just the tip of the iceberg of what you can modify to speed up Firefox. You can go to Firefox's website to learn more or you can type in "speed up firefox" in your search engine and you will be directed to many lists of different ways to speed up Firefox all over the internet.
