Sharkheads Souvenir Shop Design Project

Sharkheads/ Souvenir City were the Mississippi Gulf Coast's premier gift shops until being knocked down by hurricane Katrina in August of 2005. The shop originally opened in 1977 and grew throughout the years to the 35,000 square foot shop that was destroyed in 2005.

The operators also have another shop located about a mile west of the previous Sharkheads location called Souvenir City. Souvenir City was open pre-Katrina and was reopened in June of 2009. Opening the smaller store allowed the operators to gauge the market and get an idea of how much the gulf coast had recovered since the storm in 2005. Souvenir City carries the same merchandise that was available in Sharkheads and even a few new items. The store carries everything from brand name merchandise such as Quiksilver and Roxy to our delicious homemade fudge and everything in between.

The Sharkheads website features many design aspects to increase the "shark" part of the site.

The top banner incorporates the reason why they are named Sharkheads and displays the shark head that was on their original building.

Their trademark pink is all over the site. Even little oddities are added to help immerse the visitor in the theme like the shark fin that follows you around the screen when you move your mouse over the links or the fin that "swims" through the logo. The site is a fun site that represents a fun business.

The entire Sharkheads site contains valid XHTML, and valid CSS 2.1. Sharkheads completion time was about 2 weeks.
