Unknown Coordinates Design Project
Unknown Coordinates is a family website that documents their vacations around the world. The Oliver family planned on spending their wedding anniversary in city, state, or country every year. So far they have been to Pensacola, Florida, Disney World (Orlando, Florida), New Orleans, Louisiana and even Lima, Peru. Eric and Kelly made a pact to experience the world and with this site they allow you to follow them around the world through video and pictures. Leave your comments or just stay to view their world.
Their site is not simple by any means. It was the first site we designed that had their own custom blog (a blog that we wrote). They have a Twitter account and a Youtube page that needs constant attention because they have followers that read their posts and people who enjoy their videos on their site or directly on Youtube. Their site involves a great user interaction from visitors such as comments or advertisement. In order to accomplish a stylish site that had all these things we had to completely rethink our normal design and use a lot of their unique ideas.
Their site contains too many pages to list all of them, but we can give you an overview of what we did to give them the uniqueness they wanted but the SEO ability then needed.
First we decided to make a background that features the world with question marks everywhere...kinda sticks to the theme of the site. Their background is static and does not scroll with the page, this was a great idea, but forced us to use white backgrounds for the content....which actually makes the site look better then the original idea we had.
Their site played with brown and white colors while having the colorful background map to even them out. The links are a brown color with a black roll over to match the page text color.
Their site features a dynamic photo gallery with in page enlargement for a better view. The visitors can choose between the best pictures, all videos, or even a individual page for each vacation. The vacation page has a title bar for each year that separates the vacations for easier searching.
As far as advertising goes you can have a link present on their site, on the beginning or the end of videos, as well as product placement on them while they travel. Of course there is a fee for this service, but considering the amount of views your product will have it is well worth the investment.
